Islands within Islands

Ben Cunliffe Architects won a Silver Gilt for their garden, “Islands Within Islands” at the 2007 Holker Hall Festival.

The garden was designed to maximise a sense of extensive space in what would equate to a normal sized garden. This was achieved by using large planting in narrow confined beds with expansive water.

Ben was delighted to share a platform with BBC gardener Monty Don who chose our garden to do all his television interviews.

The garden was later rebuilt at a local terraced house in Kendal. While making this very modest space feel generous and expansive, despite proximity to neighbours; it also provided a screened private and serene garden space.
