We are brimming with pride that our Lyth Valley cottage is featured amongst 10 Amazing Sustainable Builds. A great compliment indeed. The façade of this period cottage, nestled in the Lyth Valley of the Lake District, is the only original element of the building. Behind it is a fascinating, eco-friendly new build, designed by Ben Cunliffe Architects. The modern extension, which follows the contours of the existing roof line, maintains the charm of the original construction while introducing a contemporary wing to accommodate modern family life. During the course of the works, the roof was removed entirely and replaced, and two of the four external walls were taken down and rebuilt. New floors allowed for underfloor heating powered by a ground source heat pump and borehole technology, while the new roof improved headroom and assisted with the alteration of the layout. The building is super-insulated throughout and the highest quality windows were installed. A sedum roof adds to the insulation and reduces surface water run-off. Local materials were used where possible, including Burlington Slate on the cottage roof and local stone cladding.

Our award winning freestanding spa building for Gilpin Hotel and Lake House is also featured as a cost effective and stylish way to expand your home. This timber framed wooden box, blends in with its woodland setting and is bolted onto a cantilevered steel frame. Scooping the Northern Design Awards Best Innovative Design in 2013 this building can be adapted to fit many domestic or commercial situations.
