Gilpin Spice

Converting the derelict coach house at Gilpin felt like completing the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle for Ben Cunliffe Architects. Having worked with his family for nearly 15 years renovating the estate, the amazing early Victorian Cumbrian barn, complete with many original features was crying out to be renovated.

A new Asian fusion restaurant, together with private dining room and cinema room was conceived. Space for the new restaurant kitchens was at a premium so a new glazed gable was added to the existing building giving commanding views over the Gilpin estate and Cumbrian Fells. In typical Asian style diners are invited to sit at the kitchen bar to watch their food being prepared by the team of chefs.

Attention to detail was the key to this magnificent development. Working with interior designer, Sarah Jane Nielsen, existing features were incorporated into the design including the animal stalls and a previously hidden stone chimney breast in the coach house wall.
