This project has appeared on our Facebook and Twitter pages in the past, so it’s high time this got a feature on our Blog!
The original part of the cottage is typical of the Lakeland cottages from the 18th and 19th centuries. Unfortunately, this cottage held one or two surprises. The massive chimney on the gable end had in effect pushed the building over slightly, causing the opposite gable wall to lean over and the whole roof to shift. Repairs had been made, but after stripping back the layers it was decided to take the shell of the cottage back to its bare walls and start again.
The planned extension has carried on regardless, along with a complete renovation of the original building.

This will be a special house when it completes in the next few weeks. A real mixture of traditional and contemporary, plus all the benefits of modern insulation and renewable heating.
